Justice Ramana sworn in as CJI

JUSTICE NV Ramana Saturday was sworn in as the Chief Justice of India (CJI). He was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Justice Ramana is the 48th CJI. He succeeds Justice SA Bobde who retired yesterday from the office of CJI.

Justice Ramana was appointed as judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014, and will be retiring on August 26, 2022.

Justice Ramana hails from the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He was enrolled as an Advocate on February 10, 1983, and started practice in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

He was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on June 27, 2000. He functioned as Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court from March 10, 2013 to May 20, 2013. From there, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court w.e.f. 02.09.2013. He was elevated as a Judge, Supreme Court of India w.e.f. 17.02.2014.
